time for the ol' port fairy round up!
peace_bloom &
nixwilliams have both elucidated in great length on the weekend
here &
here, so i will be brief. in no particular order, my top 3 acts that i managed to see were:
fire&theft (hilarious wedding band music - cheese fuelled, fez-capped covers of classics old and new).
whole lotta love:
tin pan orange (indie-folksters. good singers+good songs+one of the most amazing, astonishing and mind boggling musicians i have ever seen=win. seriously, during one particularly energetic fiddle solo, i swear his head started smoking. you have to see them live to get the full impact of his performance. i felt slightly melancholy watching him, though, because he physically reminded me of a friend of mine who died a year or so ago).
the tide:
c.w. stoneking (southern bluesman from sydney - he has one of the most bizarre accents i have heard. a cross between nasal rural australian and deep south new orleans southern drawl. but a talented musician and songwriter, with a much sharper sense of humour than i previously realised. this was the most crowded show i saw, i was squashed up against the side of the tent, but he was excellent).
seven nation army:
i'm off to bed now. tired tired tired after nights of "sleeping" on hard ground in a tent.
toodle pip.
