i was sitting on the bus this morning, on my way to work, when i spied an advert on the side of a passing tram. the advert was for a website called
prochoice.com.au. oh!, i thought to myself. i know the
atheist bus adverts were not permitted on australia's transport, so maybe they've moved on to a different battlefield.
but then i noticed the images in the ad. it featured hardware. pictures of tools - hammers, spanners, you know the type of thing. and i thought, oh!, maybe they're actually saying that if you are pro choice, this is how they perform abortions - with hammers and spanners and things!
by this time, the tram had passed, and i didn't get to see what it actually was trying to say. so when i got home (after delicious cheap and cheerful food, with cheap and surly service, with
nixwilliams and
sizeoftheocean - yay dumplings!), i looked at the
pro choice website, and it appears to be for "the professional's choice in safety gear", so that workers can hammer and spanner without fear of injury or upset.
i wonder if they realise the significance of the name they have chosen for themselves? it would be easy enough for a professional wanting to find the website of "the professional's choice in safety gear", so that they could choose some safety gear, and for them, when typing in the web address, to miss out the final ".au" of the address. they would then find themselves at
prochoice.com, and could end up "helping women make informed choices" instead.
why would they choose that name? it baffles me.
