Silence Shattered
Nov. 4th, 2009 11:01 pmHello. Remember me? It's been several months since my last confession. How are you all?
I've been to the UK, walked for 2 weeks along the entire south coast of Cornwall (just because, well, you know, we could), went to Cambridge and Huntingdonshire, caught up with friends and family in the UK, and then came home.
I've eaten lots of delicious food, and some food that gave me food poisoning and made me vomit for 24 hours.
I've had a birthday and turned 33 years old.
I became unemployed, and started a new career as an eBay flogger.
So that's what I've been up to. How about you?
I read a really interesting article today over at comedy "fan" site called ...Some Of The Corpses Are Amusing (SOTCAA). (The bit preceding the ellipses, and the general claim of the website, is that Comedy Is Dead - things ain't as funny as they used to be). It is an opinionated website, and one that I find myself frequently disagreeing with, but it is nearly always interesting (if you're a comedy nerd like me).
Anyway, the article in question was this one, about Ricky Gervais, and his "producer" Karl Pilkington, who made some idiotic comments about a show that had been on TV about people with facial disfigurements.
One of the subjects of that documentary, Victoria Lucas, wrote a rather restrained, but intelligent and fantastic response to the reception she'd received since the programme aired. You can read it here.

Victoria Lucas in Cast Offs
You can read more about the whole shabang on the SOTCAA post. At the end, they talk about a new TV show that channel 4 are producing, starring Victoria Lucas (amongst other people) called Cast Offs - a sort of spoof of Survivor style programmes, which the producers describe as "Satirical, poignant and unashamedly honest, Cast Offs blows preconceptions of disability out of the water."
It starts screening later this month. I hope it will be good.
