the guardian reports on a TV add that has been pulled because people complained about it. (the add can be seen in the article linked to above).

people didn't complain, as you or i might expect, because of the stereotyped gender roles performed by mum and dad, oh no. it was because it showed two men kissing. and i quote:

The Heinz Deli Mayo ad has been pulled after less than a week on air after [about 200] viewers complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that it was "offensive" and "inappropriate to see two men kissing".

and it goes on:

Other complaints include that the ad was "unsuitable to be seen by children" and that it raised the difficult problem of parents having to discuss the issue of same-sex relationships with younger viewers.

omg shock horror! parents have to TALK TO THEIR CHILDREN!!! i think, rather, that a lot of children these days would need to face the difficult problem of having to discuss the issue of same-sex relationships with their STUPID PARENTS!!!

oh, and because of recent legislation in the uk which means that junk food can't be advertised on kids telly, the ad...

...cannot be shown in or around children's programming, because Heinz Deli Mayo falls foul of Ofcom's TV ad restrictions relating to products that are high in fat, salt and sugar.

you sometimes wonder when people will realise that it is the 21st century. get with the programme, people!
